About Us

We are a group of mothers who started the charity Wings4Doves because we wanted to bring hope to our community. Wings4Doves is a new organisation which has been operating since 2020. This has been a trying year and we have had to work together as a community. We want to bring a sense of belonging and pride and recognition. All our founders share the same interest, improving the well-being of our children and in our community. Wings4Doves is something new and fresh. It is a place where everyone is welcome, and we can all inspire each other. We give people purpose through arts, music, education and culture.

Jean

I'm a mother of five and a grandmother, so it was very easy for me to come up with the idea of a charity. I saw the gaps that were missing in the community we live. Being a black citizen living in England all my life I have always struggled my identity, asking myself who am I and where do I fit in. I am born Black British, but why does the colour of my skin make me feel that I am a second-class citizen? Why does the colour of my skin make me feel that I'm not part of British culture? Why do I feel like I don’t have rights like everyone else? These are questions I've always asked myself. And these are the questions which we no longer want children in our community to ask themselves. Instead, we want our children to ask themselves what they can do to inspire others in their community. Who can they be? How can they represent the community they live in? Wings4Doves can help answer these questions.

Gosia

My name is Gosia and my main inspirations in life is my family, my amazing husband and two beautiful daughters. I’m a senior graphic designer at the The Tablet Publishing company with 13 years experience. Over the years I also worked with many promoters on international cultural events promoting and designing their visual communications. I was born and raised in Poland and when I turned 18 I decided to travel a bit before I went to university. So I went to America … there was no more safety net that my family has always provided for me and I had to grow up very quickly and learn how to survive and fend for myself. Even though it was a very challenging time I would not change anything as it made me who I am today. When in 2003 I moved to London to study I loved the cultural diversity this city provided. However after living here for many years, having my own family I know that not everyone has access to the same opportunities and that there are still kids that go without their basic needs being met. Thats why when Jean asked me to jump on board there was no doubt in my mind that this is something that I really wanted to be part of.

Our Story...

Our Story...

Wings4Doves: We want to create a place which is open and unique, a place which promotes diversity. A place into which everyone can inject their thoughts, and where we can come together to combine our ideas and produce something positive for future generations. It was with this creativity and inspiration that Wings4Doves was born, a collaboration of ideas and thoughts. And now we are bringing those ideas to life in a positive way for the community which we live in.

Families should be encouraged to come together to learn from each other and inspire new ideas. Therefore, it is essential that all families have access to the resources and advice they need to help them realise their ideas and support them in coming together to build their dreams, improve their wellbeing and strengthen the community we all share. I came up with the name Wings4Doves because I believe children should be like doves and given the opportunity to fly and to realise their full potential.

We are constantly planning and have many exciting projects in the pipeline. Many are based around the arts and our culture because these two main components represent the community we live in. We believe that the arts are very important in the black community as they give children and families a sense of belonging and a medium through which they can relate to each other and identify themselves too. The arts bring us all together. We chose culture because we are a cultural community, we want to create a positive environment where families can come together to share their experiences and educate each other, collaborating to bring all of our ideas to life. We want the young children to experience their culture in a way that they can be proud of and make sure it’s never lost but cherished, to be proud of who we are and where we are coming from.

Future projects we are planning to do will include film making, music and creativity, and first and foremost, considering our spiritual side, which is who we are.

We want our films to represent who we are and where we come from. Therefore, one of my films will be about the Windrush generation. Our community can identify with the people who came over from the Caribbean countries in the 20th century as a lot of our ancestors are from there. Our parents started off in England and that is who I, Jean, am today.

We have talented spiritual speakers who not only teach from the Bible but can guide the youngsters with an understanding of the new world generation which we live in today. They can combine their spiritual thoughts in today’s life with their experiences and expectations. We focus on who you are and not who you’re supposed to be according to your life experience or upbringing or position in society. When you tell someone who they should be they begin to lose their identity.

For example, why change a dog to a cat? Won’t the dog then lose who it was? It will be forced to be something it is not. It will no longer be able to bark. We believe this is the anger felt by children. If a child is a born dancer, who are we to tell them to be something else because of the colour of their skin?

Wings4doves is here to ensure that that child is given all the assistance they need to become a dancer or whatever they aspire to be. We want all the young black youths to get involved in our music, an activity they can pour their energy into and bring out their creative side with.

The projects that we have done so far show the impact that we have had on the community. We have watched children and families get involved in art, creating pieces for themselves. I’ve even been able to hold an exhibit which has shown the children their capabilities and brought families and the community together in a positive way. We have now decided that we want to put our effort into creating a charity where we can get other parents and volunteers who are equally as passionate as us involved. We believe each person is unique and can bring something new to this organisation. With Wings4Doves we want to tap into each and every individual and to bring out their true potential. We will create a space where we can all come together and make this happen!
